Galle

Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a historic, architectural, and archaeological wonder in Galle, Sri Lanka. It was originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later fortified and expanded by the Dutch in the 17th century. The fort is a well-preserved example of a fortified city built by European powers in Southeast Asia and is a popular tourist destination.

The National Maritime Museum or National Maritime Archaeology Museum in Galle, Sri Lanka is situated within Galle Fort. It was first opened to the public on 9 May 1992 and is located in a 1671 Dutch Warehouse above the Old Gate of Galle Fort.

The Japanese Peace Pagoda in Galle, Sri Lanka, is a serene Buddhist monument perched atop Rumassala Hill, near Unawatuna. Constructed in 2005 by Japanese monks from the Nipponzan Myōhōji order, it was built during the Sri Lankan Civil War as a symbol of peace and unity. The gleaming white stupa is encircled by four golden Buddha statues, each representing a significant stage in Buddha’s life. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, Galle Fort, and the lush surrounding forests. Open daily from 7 AM to 9 PM, the pagoda offers a tranquil setting for reflection and meditation. Entry is free, but modest attire is required, covering shoulders and knees. Accessible by tuk-tuk or a short hike from Unawatuna, it stands as a testament to harmony and spiritual reflection.

Unawatuna Beach, located just south of Galle on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, is a picturesque crescent-shaped bay renowned for its golden sands and turquoise waters.
